Garage Keys

What is Garage Keys?
Where did you get the idea for it?
How much does it cost?
Where can I get more instruments?
How do I make my own instruments?
What happened to GBlite? D:

What is Garage Keys?
Garage Keys is a free app that lets you type on your keyboard to play various instruments such as a piano, guitar, and many others. No, not a fancy MIDI keyboard--your PC keyboard that you use to type words on. That one.

Where did you get the idea for it?
It is directly based on the Musical Typing feature of GarageBand on the Mac. But of course, not a lot of people can afford a Mac and GarageBand, so they're out of luck for musical typing. Unless, of course, they get Garage Keys.

How much does it cost?
Nothing. It's free! Just download and play!

Where can I get more instruments?
mstr.ca/instruments

How do I make my own instruments?
It takes some time but isn't too complicated--you just need to make a bunch of sounds and rename them to the following:
C1 Cs1 D1 Ds1 E1 F1 Fs1 G1 Gs1 A2 As2 B2 C2 Cs2 D2 Ds2 E2 F2
That's 18 sounds--they must all be in WAV format. Place them all in one folder, then click on the arrow in Garage Keys and 'Instruments'. Click on the E, and then 'Add New From File'. Select that folder, and you're done! It's that simple.

What happened to GBlite? D:
This is GBlite, silly! Only it's much better and has a much better name.

Skybox

What is Skybox?
Where can I get Skype? I want to try Skybox.
What's everything that it can do?
My settings are lost when I close Skybox.
It's not letting me start it...missing .NET or something...
Will I get banned for using the Responses tab?

What is Skybox?
Skybox is an app that helps you manage Skype. It can do many things such as auto-respond to certain messages, auto-block spammers, auto-leave pointless convos, and so on.

Where can I get Skype? I want to try Skybox.
I appreciate that you really want to try the app, but you'll most likely get a much better opinion of it if you get used to Skype first. Don't just fire up Skybox as soon as you get it. Give it time.

What's everything it can do?
List of all tabs:

bulletGeneral Various options such as decline all calls, accept all contact requests
bulletResponses Make it so that if you get a certain message, you'll auto-respond with another
bulletMass Messaging Send a message to all your contacts
bulletProfile Manage what your info looks like on Skype
bulletMood Set your mood message and read others'
bulletWhois Look up info on your contacts
bulletStats Get info on how much you use Skype
bulletLinks Make hyperlinks to call, chat, or add you and others
bulletBlock Block people, nuff said
bulletConsole Geeky way of using Skybox
bulletAbout / Updates Check for updates

With much more to come in future updates. Check out the Updates tab every so often and make sure you're up to date!

My settings are lost when I close Skybox :<
Yeah, sorry. Hoping to get file-saving in C# working soon. The current fix is just to not close Skybox. :>

You said MSTR Bot got banned for sending messages without permission. Will I get banned for using the Responses tab?
Actually, I think Skype was referring to the announcements it sent to all its contacts on occasion, which would actually be the Mass Messaging tab. Careful!

7 Essentials

What is 7 Essentials?
Can I use this on Windows XP?
I'm on Windows Vista--what should I install from the pack?
Why should I use 7 Essentials?

What is 7 Essentials?
7 Essentials is a suite of seven applications that were completely changed (one removed) in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Those applications are:

bulletCalculator
bulletMinesweeper
bulletPaint
bulletPinball
bulletSound Recorder
bulletSpider Solitaire
bulletWordPad

They are all ripped right from Windows XP and ready for use on Vista/7.

Can I use this on Windows XP?
It would be completely idiotic, but you could if you really wanted to.

I'm on Windows Vista--what should I install from the pack?
The following applications were changed in Windows Vista, and are the only ones worth installing if you're on Vista:

bulletPinball
bulletSound Recorder
bulletSpider Solitaire

Why should I use 7 Essentals?
If you're on Windows 7 and use any of the apps in that big list up there, consider these changes that were made to them in Windows Vista/7:

bulletCalculator: New skin
bulletMinesweeper: New skin and sound effects
bulletPaint: Ribbon interface
bulletPinball: Removed
bulletSound Recorder: No voice effects, speed changes, echo-effect, .wma only, etc.
bulletSpider Solitaire: New skin
bulletWordPad: Ribbon interface

You may actually like some of these changes, such as the new skin for Calculator.  And if you want to use the new versions of them, they will still be there. Installing 7 Essentials places "XP" versions next to them. ex. You can launch either "Calculator" or "Calculator XP"

Randomizer

How do I use Randomizer?
It's not letting me start it...missing .NET or something...

How do I use Randomizer?
Use the two tabs on top to swap between modes.
In List Mode, type text into the little box on top, then press Add to list. Keep doing this to add options to the list, then press Generate and the "Generate" text will turn into one of the random options.
In Numbers Mode, set a minimum and maximum number range, then press Generate and the "Generate" text will turn into a random number in that range.

It's not letting me start it...missing .NET or something...
You need this official download from Microsoft.

MSTR Bot

What is MSTR Bot?
What happened?

How do you make Skype bots?
Make a new account for the bot!

What is MSTR Bot?
MSTR Bot is (well, was) a Skype chat bot that you could add to your contacts. You could then send it commands like '!help' or '!reverse umad' and it would perform them. Exactly like an IRC chat bot (MSTR Bot was originally an IRC bot before being ported to Skype)

What happened?
TLDR - It was banned for "sending unsolicited communications"

Full Story - I woke up early on Saturday, September 24, 2011. I opened up the bot's laptop to see that it had been logged out--tried logging back in, no luck. Tried resetting my password, no luck. It had either been hacked or banned.

I emailed Skype to ask, and got a response back stating that it breached paragraph 6.3(c) of the Skype Terms of Use, which prohibits the use of the Skype software to send unsolicited communications.

And that was it, it was over. MSTR Bot had been thrown out by Skype. Sad, but shit happens. I didn't cry or anything, don't worry :)

How do you make Skype bots?
Even with the banning of MSTR Bot, I will still most likely make part 2 of  How to make Skype apps. The original video did not cover events (ex. message received!), which the bot relied on. Events took approximately forever to figure out how to do, and with the knowledge of them, you can still make Skype apps.

Stop crying and make a new account for the bot!
And get IP-banned? OKAY!

When are the Mac/iOS versions of apps coming out?
Why do you keep saying "we" or "us"? How many people work there?

When are the Mac/iOS versions of apps coming out?
Very soon, I've got Xcode figured out finally. However, you probably won't be seeing versions of MSTR's apps on Mac/iOS--instead you'll be seeing completely different apps. Reasoning:
bulletGarage Keys: Mac and iOS already have GarageBand. It's way better, although it does cost money. Lods of it.
bulletSkybox: Skype don't give a shit about the Skype API on Mac. And even if they wanted to, it could never be done on iOS.
bullet7 Essentials: Most of it works on Wine for Mac. Besides, the mindset of 7 Essentials is to allow XP apps to run on 7, not XP apps to be ported off everywhere

Why do you keep saying "we" or "us"? How many people work there?
We at MSTR take pride in our massive member count of...1.

Really though, doesn't it sound way more pro to say "we" instead of "I"? So please don't mind if I say it. Especially if we jump between the two like I just did.

Alright, being srsly though, usually when I'm writing a personal note like this I'll say "I" and when describing an MSTR product I'll say "we" made it. Why do I do this? Cause I can, and if I can, there be haters. And if there be haters, haters gonna hate. Deal with it.
